Event Planning by Ifeoma Anaekwe

Today we would be talking about event planning and how it is always good to have the best of event planners to plan your occasion. On our blog we have a very promising and renowned event planner and decorator, Ifeoma Anaekwe, who would enlighten us on this.

Planning an event can be daunting and stressful but with the right information the sky is your starting place.
Always remember that every event is unique and as such there is a need for creativity.

Designing and producing an event -whether meeting,fund-raiser,corporate event,conference,convention or other special event- has been compared to directing a movie,but is actually more like a live stage production. It is a high-wire act  without a safety net. Once your event starts there are no second chances. Its done in one take and there are no dress rehearsals. You can't yell "cut" and re-shoot the scene. You are simply not able to predict (as you can with a movie script) how your guests and suppliers will interact and react. But you can plan,prepare and thrn be ready for the unexpected.

Before your initial planning you need to first determine Why you are having the event. This is referred to as defining the event objectives. This will help you in designing an event that will bring returns on investment and time to the company you are designing the event for.

The next step is to determine the Scope of the event,two criterials will determine this: Money and Objective.

Objective; the event must be crafted to meet guests and host's need. Event objective can be tangible and intangible and can be met pre-event,during the event and post event.
Money; it is important to determine ahead of time how much you can spend so that you can select the appropriate event style and plan the event to fit the budget.

Next is the Event Vision,in order to create an event designed to fulfil your client objective and be everything that they hoped for,it is important to begin with their initial event vision. When visualizing an event vision,the planner should consider these;
The Element - this include all the parts that makes up the event.
The Essential - event must haves.
The Environment - venue and style.
The Energy - creating a mood.
The Emotion - the feeling.

Note that its not all aspect of an event that requires money-sense but how best the event planner can think outside the box.
